Historical CBNG Production
Wyoming - Powder River Basin
This chart  demonstrates the historical and current production of coal bed natural gas within three counties of the Powder River Basin.  The first noticeable production of coal bed natural gas in in the Basin, was Campbell County, in 1997.  Production grew an at an annual average of about 360% annually until 2002, leveling and peaking in 2003.  That peak year of production was seven years after first significant production.  Production started to decline in 2004 and has continued a steady annual decrease of about 4.25% .  It appears production for Campbell County, in 2007, compared with 2006, may accelerate that decline with a 25% annual  decrease.
Johnson County production is growing rapidly. This chart would reflect  a 45% increase in production, comparing 2006 with 2007.    Since 2002 to 2007, Johnson County, shows an annual average production growth of 610%, nearly double the annual growth  of Campbell County. When will Johnson County reach its peak production year?  If  Johnson County production follows the same pattern as Campbell County, then that peak year would be  2009.

Sheridan County may have reached its peak production in 2006.  If the 2007 projection is reasonably accurate, the production for 2007  will be 45,579,423 Mcf.  This would be a 20% decrease from 2006.  Therefore, it appears Sheridan County production may have peaked  the sixth year, whereas Campbell County peaked at seven.  Only tracking production over time will show us the expected end of coal bed natural gas production..
