Operators use treatment as another cbng water management tool in the Water Management Toolbox. Treatments such as ion exchange, reverse osmosis and capacitive desalination were severely limited when the first wells were drilled in the Powder River Basin in the late 90’s. A decade later, operators have tested nearly ten different types of treatment methods all across the Basin.

Gillette Rancher Experiments With Reinjection

A local rancher’s aquifer recharge experiment mirrored the results of a Montana state study. Gillette Rancher Robert Brug determined 25 percent of his shallow gravel aquifer wells had the right rock type to accept water easily. His results were identical to a recent study conducted by the Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology, which found water replacement, or injection, was possible in 25 percent of the Powder River Basin.

Governor Schweitzer Provides Input on Montana Coalbed Natural Gas Development

The Coalbed Natural Gas Alliance met with Montana’s Governor Brian Schweitzer in Billings recently to discuss coalbed natural gas production in Montana. CBNGA member companies present at the meeting included Yates Petroleum, Nance Petroleum (a subsidiary of St. Mary Land & Exploration), Fidelity Exploration & Production Company (a subsidiary of MDU Resources), and Marathon Oil Company. Also attending the meeting was a Big Horn County Commissioner and a Wyoming rancher who has experienced CBNG development on her land.

New survey yields positive comments
about oil and gas industry

GILLETTE, WY - Two organizations, some of whose members are involved in coalbed natural gas development, have released the results of surveys they conducted during the CBM Fair June 3 and 4, 2004, in Gillette, Wyoming. The Independent Petroleum Association of Mountain States (IPAMS) and the Coalbed Natural Gas Alliance (CBNGA) independently conducted surveys of fairgoers who stopped by their booths about their perceptions of the energy industry and coalbed natural gas (CBNG) development.
