Wyoming and the Powder River Basin’s
CBNG Production Outlook

Since the first CBNG wells were drilled in Campbell County in the early 1990's, production in Wyoming has jumped to more than 12,000 wells. Over 326 million cubic feet (mcf) of coalbed natural gas have been produced in the Powder River Basin over the last decade.

With reserves in the Powder River Basin estimated at as much as 43 trillion cubic feet (tcf), northeast Wyoming and southeast Montana are the sites of a major source of America's fastest growing natural resource -- coalbed natural gas. The United States consumes about 22 tcf of natural gas a year and the Basin provides over 900,000 cubic feet of gas per day to heat and cool homes, cook food and provide electricity to millions of Americans. Over half of American families and businesses use natural gas and 70% of new single-family homes in the U.S. built in 2001 have natural gas heating, according to the Department of Energy.
